BMI 25 - 29.9

You may qualify for medical weight loss program with comprehensive lifestyle management including diet, physical activity and behavior modification.

You qualify for weight loss medications if your BMI is between 27 and 29.9 and you have at least one associated comorbid medical condition such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obstructive sleep apnea.


BMI 30 - 34.9

You qualify for medical weight loss program, weight loss medications or the intra-gastric balloon.

You qualify for bariatric surgery including the gastric bypass, the sleeve gastrectomy if you have a medical condition related to obesity, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obstructive sleep apnea.


BMI 35 - 39.9

You qualify for medical weight loss program, weight loss medications or the intra-gastric balloon.

You qualify for bariatric surgery including the gastric bypass or the sleeve gastrectomy. Insurance companies however usually require you to have a medical condition related to obesity, such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, and obstructive sleep apnea.


BMI over 40

You qualify for the bariatric surgery, specially the gastric bypass, the sleeve gastrectomy or the biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch/SADI-S.

You qualify for medical weight loss program, weight loss medications or the intra-gastric balloon, but results with these options are suboptimal in this group.
